English summary
Goals and a bit of history
The foundation Drukwerk in de Marge was established in May 1975 by a number of amateur printers and publishers (private presses), who felt a need to get in touch with their colleagues. Since the start the number of participants has grown to about 560, 175 of whom are active as printers and/or publishers. The others support Drukwerk in de Marge out of interest, for pleasure or just to support ‘a good cause’. The name Drukwerk in de Marge literally means ‘printed matter in the margin’. Therefore, private printers in The Netherlands are often called ‘margedrukkers’ or marginal printers.
Activities
¶ Current information is given four times a year in the Nieuwsbrief (Newsletter). New publications are announced in the Nieuwsbrief.
¶ At irregular intervals a Bulletin is published, an illustrated book-like publication with articles about the history of printing, aspects of typography, the technical side of printing, book arts and similar subjects. The latest Bulletin (published in cooperation with De Buitenkant publishers) contains a selection of the writings of Huib van Krimpen, the late honorary chairman of Drukwerk in de Marge.
¶ Once a year a Book Art Fair is held in the beautiful Pieterskerk in Leiden. Private presses and small publishers, bookbinders, papermakers and calligraphers present and sell their work. Type, paper, binding materials and books on typographical subjects are also available; demonstrations of papermaking and marbling are held, and there are special activities for children.
¶ On Koppermaandag, the traditional printers’ feast held on Monday after Epiphany in early January, the members of Drukwerk in de Marge receive a special Koppermaandag publication, printed by one of the members.
¶ Drukwerk in de Marge has a Technical & Information Working Group that repairs or even restores presses, collects user manuals for historic presses, finds suppliers of hard-to-get materials, maintains an inventory of typefaces held by the members.
¶ In close cooperation with the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (Royal Library) in The Hague, Drukwerk in de Marge maintains the Bibliografie van marginale uitgaven; an overview of the production of its members and other private presses.

About this site
You will have noticed that most of this site is in Dutch – the language that most of our members think, dream and print in. However, our world is bigger than just The Netherlands and Belgium. Drukwerk in de Marge also has members in the UK and Germany.
The website does contain information that is not language dependent:
¶ A large number of links that are relevant for printing enthusiasts on the Links page.
¶ A list of member printers/presses on the Drukkers pages.
